20/20 Vision

The suburbs in Stockholm stem from political ideas and building periods, mainly from the 1940s to the 1970s. The view on family life during this time is rather different from today. From an ergonomic perspective we Swedes where early and initially rather clear in our thought. But on the social level a lot of things have changed.

20/20 VISION is a program for social and ecological living, that keeps in mind, that Stockholmers next to the New Yorkers have the highest percentage one person households, on the face of the earth. That's not to say that STHLM.ers nor the N.Y.ers are asocial beings.
Our 20/20 VISION contains shared spaces, as well as private space. The interiors you see in these pictures where exhibited at the Housing and Furniture Fair, Design Passion, in Stockholm 2009. Six to eight house holds together share these common spaces. And the utilities are proportioned for this.
Shared spaces calls for a different logic than usual, it can’t be as private as a room of ones own, or for that matter as formal as work areas, or hotel spaces. Depending on the degree of interaction the interior has to adapt.
This is one choice, based on small scale research, in our social sphere.
